ISS Estonia celebrated Diversity Day on 17th April 2019

By celebrating this day, attention is drawn to the theme of a diverse workforce, and to notice and value the importance and uniqueness of every person in companies and organizations as well as in the society.

Diversity and employees are very important to ISS. We value all our employees, regardless of their gender, nationality, race, hobbies etc.

The theme of the day was selected Ukraine and Ukrainians. All office workers were invited to dress up in Ukrainian flag colors – yellow and blue. The office was decorated with yellow and blue balloons. The ISS regions also joined the invite and the offices have never been so colorful before. ISS offices have never been so colorful before.

In the offices all over Estonia it was decided to conduct a Ukrainian-based quiz on the day, which answers could be found on various posters across the offices. The winners received different and necessary gifts from the Estonian Human Rights Center.

After lunch, ISS employees from Ukraine arrived at the office. They brought their own country dishes for tasting and gave a very special performance – sang, danced and read poems in Ukrainian. Even popular clothing and a special bread were sent from Ukraine. All ISS staff had to admit that the event was very eye opening and it was extremely pleasant to get information about Ukraine, its current situation, history and culture. Many also admitted that the poems were so beautifully presented that it took them little teary, even if they didn't understand exactly everything.

During the day it was decided to carry out a fun game “Our Employee, Your Label!” in Facebook. Page followers were invited to guess information regarding 4 ISS employees – their job position, hobbies, nationality and tenure. Among those who guess or liked the game, prizes from Estonian Human Rights Center were drawn. The aim of the game was to draw attention to the labeling and prejudices in our society both within and around us. We learned that it is relatively difficult to guess about people if there is only a photo and there is no additional information available.

ISS thanks everyone who took the time to join our game "Our Employee, Your Label!" and congratulates again all the winners!

ISS calls out not to label other people we do not know. All of us are special and unique, and diversity is power!
